Taxi alternative in Rome

The first thing you should know is that Uber is different in Italy, they only offer what they call Uber Black, which are high-end cars. We were in Rome in May, and we were there last year too, and we used Uber on both trips.

As for tariffs, sometimes Uber is lower, sometimes not. So, I suggest doing what we did – which was checking the rate on Uber, and then asking a taxi what their rate would be. Here are 2 examples:

We arrived at Termini station, we got a quote from Uber to our hotel, so we asked the Taxi stop what the fare would have been and the fare would have been much higher by taxi, so we went with Uber. It was fantastic, our ride was in a Mercedes. The driver knew our destination and the fare was actually below the estimate.

We did the same thing on the way to the airport when we left our hotel. It turned out that using a taxi in this case was the best rate, but not much. In retrospect, it would have been a more pleasant trip to Uber in a BMW than the old non-air conditioned taxi.

We have used Uber in Rome, London and other European cities. We always use it in the United States and have always had great experiences. For whatever reason, most TA forums seem anti Uber, however, it’s a great option. Use the app, check the rate and decide.
